Wellington Jitsu Academy

The world can be a violent place, so learning to look after yourself is a wise precaution. Jitsu is a martial art designed principally for practical self-defense in a modern setting, using techniques that work under realistic conditions.

In training sessions, you will learn how to defend yourself from everything from unwanted grabs to punches, shoves, head-butts, chokes, kicks and a variety of weapons. You will learn how to deal with multiple attackers, armed or otherwise.

By training regularly, you will improve your general fitness, flexibility, strength, coordination, reaction time, and above all, self-confidence. Perhaps most importantly, you will gain the kind of mental control required to think your way through and safely out of potentially dangerous encounters.

Beginners are welcome all year round, and your first session is free. As the sessions are practical, it's best to wear something loose and comfortable.

The Wellington Judo and Ju Jitsu Academy is affiliated to The Jitsu Foundation Australasia a daughter organisation of The Jitsu Foundation, a body that regulates the training of over 100 clubs in the UK and abroad. The Foundation mandates and trains our instructors and conducts regular gradings, among a great many other things.

The Club trains at the Academy on Wednesdays 7 till 8.30pm and Sundays 4 till 5.30pm see timetable
